I am getting better at making sure I'm being safe when eating out.
I have also helped others to be safer with their health when eating with others.
I did contact a restaurant before hand and made sure I was understood by the server. I know at times I feel guilty about what I have to do to be safe.
However, I know it is important and I am worth it.

Way to go, Karen! These are all important steps to take and I want you to celebrate yourself for taking them. It is important, you are worth it. It can be uncomfortable what we have to do to be safe, but your health matters. Thank you so much for watching!

Thankyou. Very good. How have you handled when a restaurant staff bluffs that they gf or that they know or lied?
Jennifer Fitzpatrick says
Thank you Elle for watching! Do you mean places that say it's gluten-free and then you get sick later? And how to handle when that happens? Just looking for clarification so I can offer specific advice.

Thank you so much for this !
I can see myself getting stuck in analysis paralysis on this;)
So far, I've started a list of restaurants (near work and others), scrolled Find Me GF, watched this video and Tayler S's videos on this and taken notes. After each of these "tasks", I just step back for awhile.
I don't think I have typical symptoms so I can already sense that I might be resistant to speaking up. Before I knew to ask all these questions, I'd ordered two GF meals and didn't notice symptoms. But I'm newly diagnosed (4 months) and have IBS too so things aren't totally normal yet. I just decided to hold on restaurants until my follow-up tests in June to see what's up and if I need to address the other issues. But, I know I can't wait forever. Definitely miss the spontaneity:( Luckily there are a couple of dedicated GF bakeries and restaurants in town that I could try first when I'm ready.

Thank you for sharing, Teresa! Stepping back for a while is good, remember batching tasks can help you avoid analysis paralysis. I hope you are feeling better and getting more confident every day. And that's a great first step to try those dedicated bakeries when you are ready!
